assuming you meant 6x+17=2x+19;
6x-2x + 17 = 2x - 2x +19 (subtracting 2x from each side)
4x + 17 - 17 = 19 - 17 (subtract 17 from each side)
4x = 2 (last step is to divide by 4 on both sides)
x = 2/4 = 1/2 = 0.5
